Jeremiah 37:9

Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

Deceive not yourselves that the Chaldeans have departed for good, for though their army has withdrawn for a time to turn toward Egypt, they shall not stay away but shall surely return. Upon that return they shall destroy Jerusalem by burning the city with fire. Even if nearly the whole Chaldean host were smitten so that only wounded men remained in their tents, those wounded men would rise up and burn the city. The sentence is a divine judgment already decreed against an impenitent nation, which can no longer be averted and from which there is no appeal. The remnant of Judah shall be carried captive to Babylon, to learn through adversity the lessons it refused to learn under more favorable circumstances.
