Jeremiah 38:11
So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
Jeremiah had been cast into the pit because of his faithful integrity, but God arranged for him to be brought out and for his cause to find favor with the princes. He had been let down with cords into Malchiah's dungeon, where there was no water but mire and he sank in the mire. After he had been left in that muddy dungeon, Ebed-melech took men with him to the king's treasury, gathered old cast cloths and rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon so Jeremiah could be lifted out without injury.
God raised up friends for Jeremiah who besought the king in his behalf and arranged for him to be brought out, and he was removed again to the court of the prison. God did not forget Jeremiah in the dark and dismal pit of his prison house. His preservation there shows that the Lord will not forget His people in the trying hour when bound in chains, shut in by prison bars, and left to die of starvation in dark and loathsome dungeons. Christ cannot forsake those who are as the apple of His eye and purchased by His precious blood, but will provide them with food and water by angels while His judgments are visited upon the earth and the wicked are dying from hunger and thirst.
