Jeremiah 38:3

Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it.

Thus saith the Lord, this city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which shall take it, declaring that Jerusalem would certainly be handed over to the Babylonian army and that army would capture it. It was the Lord's plain and definite message through Jeremiah, urging Judah to submit rather than resist. Resistance would bring death, while submission was the course urged in view of the certain capture.

Faithfully delivering this message with integrity led to Jeremiah being cast into a pit. God brought him out of the pit and caused his case to find favor with the princes. His suffering for faithfulness did not mean that God had forsaken him. His rescue shows that God vindicates those who remain faithful.
