Jeremiah 4:19
My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.
The verse is the prophet's cry of intense anguish, pained at the very heart with inward turmoil, upon hearing the sound of the trumpet and the alarm of war announcing war and coming destruction. He cannot hold his peace or keep silent or remain silent, for destruction follows and approaches and comes upon the whole land, laying it waste and spoiling it. As prophecy it forewarns the devastation of the closing scenes of earth's history, applied to the coming scenes of trouble and war when the land will be spoiled. It stands as a fearful warning of the day of the Lord and the solemn events at the close of probation, when destruction follows destruction.
