Jeremiah 40:10
As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken. As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.
Jeremiah 40 belongs to the historical section of the book, which covers events in the two years before Jerusalem fell. In chronological order, chapters 40 to 45, including this verse, follow Jeremiah 39:1-14 and come before Jeremiah 47. The prophecies after chapter 20 are not placed in chronological order because of the way the manuscript rolls were gathered together into one book, but this makes no change in the teaching, and the chapter itself nearly always clearly shows its own time. The verse belongs to the account of the Jews left in the land after Zedekiah's captivity. That remnant could remain under Babylonian rule and receive protection so long as they heeded Jeremiah, but they chose to flee to Egypt.
