Jeremiah 42:4
Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.
Chapter 42 belongs to the section of Jeremiah covering the history of the two years before Jerusalem fell.
The verse belongs to the account of the Jewish remnant seeking Jeremiah's advice to seek God's direction.
The people asked Jeremiah for guidance and pledged to obey whatever direction he received.
Their request was insincere and spoken without sincerity, wanting counsel that agreed with their own wishes.
In the verse Jeremiah accepts their request, agrees to pray to the Lord for them according to their words, and commits to declare everything the Lord answers without withholding anything.
They rejected his direction to remain in the land and not go to Egypt, and went to Egypt contrary to it.
They afterward falsely accused Jeremiah of speaking on his own rather than from God.
They afterward accused Baruch of influencing Jeremiah against them.
