Jeremiah 43:1
And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words, And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,
Jeremiah 43:1 belongs to the historical section of Jeremiah, chapters 32-45, which recounts events in the two years before Jerusalem fell. The verse marks the moment when Jeremiah had finished delivering to all the people every word the Lord his God had sent him to speak to them. He had faithfully completed the whole commission, holding back none of what he was given to tell them.
That completed message was at once rejected, for the people accused Jeremiah of speaking falsely and denied that the Lord had sent him. Their denial was aimed at his divine prohibition and warning against going to Egypt, which they refused to obey. The accusers included the leaders and the proud men who rose against him.
The story that follows is that of people who had asked God for guidance without sincerely intending to follow it. It stands as a warning against praying with the lips while the heart is elsewhere. In its context with the following verses, through verse 7, the verse shows Jeremiah rejected by his own people and finding refuge in Africa.
