So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.
After Gedaliah was killed, the remnant of Judah that remained fled toward Egypt for safety. Jeremiah urged that remnant not to go to Egypt, giving them the Lord's warning against that course. Their leaders instead persuaded them to flee to Egypt, overruling that counsel. Their entry into Egypt was therefore disobedience to the voice of the Lord who had warned them not to go. They came into the land of Egypt as far as Tahpanhes.
