The verse belongs to the record of the Jews who fled down into Egypt after the captivity of Zedekiah. Among those refugees Jeremiah labored faithfully, continuing to bring them the word of the Lord. Many of the people dealt insincerely, asking his counsel yet determining to go to Egypt anyway, where many of them gave themselves to idolatry.
