Jeremiah 44:29
And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil: And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:
The verse belongs to the account of the Jews who fled to Egypt and turned to idolatry. It falls within the section of Jeremiah recording the history of the two years before Jerusalem fell. It gives God's announced punishment of the people in that place as a sign that His words against them for evil will surely stand and come to pass. In its context Jeremiah also predicted that their plans in Egypt would fail and that Egypt would be defeated.
