Jeremiah 46:12
The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together. The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.
Jeremiah 46:12 belongs to Jeremiah's prophecy concerning Egypt, one of his prophecies about the kingdoms surrounding Israel. It pronounces Egypt's doom and foretells its defeat. It foretells that Egypt would fall before the mighty conqueror Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. This was fulfilled in history when Egypt was invaded and subdued by Nebuchadnezzar and afterward was successively ruled by strangers and made the basest of the kingdoms.
The verse stands in a part of Jeremiah placed out of chronological order, with the chapters after Jeremiah 20 displaced when the manuscript rolls were gathered into one book, so that in chronological order Jeremiah 46 comes last, after Jeremiah 40 to 45 and Jeremiah 47. This displacement makes no change in the teaching, and the chapter itself clearly indicates its own chronology.
