The verse stands in the closing chapters of Jeremiah among his prophecies against the surrounding nations, and specifically within his prophecy concerning Moab. It announces that judgment has come upon the plain country, naming Holon and Jahazah and Mephaath as the towns affected by it. In so doing it foretells that Moab would fall before the mighty conqueror Nebuchadnezzar.
