Jeremiah 48:46

Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.

Chemosh is the god of Moab, and the Moabites are his people, called the people of Chemosh. Those people are afflicted many days and perish when Chemosh is angry with his land.

The verse belongs to the prophecy of Moab's fall before Nebuchadnezzar, when the people of Chemosh perish and the sons and daughters of Moab are taken captive. The record of Mesha king of Moab, which says that Omri afflicted Moab because Chemosh was angry with his land, agrees with the Scripture account of Omri, his son Ahab, his grandson Jehoram, and Mesha, and of Moab's servitude and rebellion.
