Jeremiah 49:29
Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: they shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Fear is on every side. Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: they shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Fear is on every side.
Jeremiah 49 stands in that part of the book given to prophecies against foreign nations, with Babylon prominent among them. Within that larger division, the verse lies among the prophecies directed against the kingdoms round about Israel, upon which doom is pronounced. More particularly, it belongs to the prophecies of powers appointed to fall before Nebuchadnezzar.
It portrays the troubles to come upon the Ishmaelites and the Arab tribes at the hands of invading powers. Those invasions were to harass them severely and to bring some tribes to the verge of destruction. Even so, the Ishmaelites as a people were never to be permanently subdued nor stripped of their freedom.
