And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence the king and the princes, saith the LORD.
The prophecy against Elam belongs with those against Egypt, Moab, Ammon, Edom, and Damascus, foretelling that Elam too would fall before Nebuchadnezzar. God declares that he himself will set his throne in Elam and establish his rule there, destroying and overthrowing its king and princes. No military strength could secure Elam's fate, for God could dismay its people, defeat their preparations, and bring its enemies against it, bringing even a proud empire low and making it fear before its enemies.
The destinies of nations are not decided solely by the wisdom of their rulers or by earthly power, but God's purpose prevails over them, overthrowing rulers and powers that oppose him to establish his own rule where their thrones once stood. That promise to set his throne in Elam was fulfilled in many hearts as its people were given opportunities to learn about the true God, and Elamites who heard the gospel at Pentecost could carry the news of the Saviour back home. The same overthrow of opposing rule and establishment of God's rule applies to the final triumph of God's kingdom when the kingdoms of the world become Christ's.
