Jeremiah 51:31
One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end, One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,
The verse foretells messengers running in rapid succession to meet one another to tell the king of Babylon that his city has been taken at one end. The report also announces that the defenders of Babylon have become afraid. Together with the next verse, it announces that the passages of the river have been seized and the defenses overcome. The prophecy was fulfilled while Belshazzar and his nobles were feasting, when the Medes and Persians diverted the Euphrates, entered the unguarded city, and captured it exactly as foretold. It contrasts Babylon's apparent security in its massive walls, bronze gates, and abundant provisions with its sudden defeat by Cyrus with the Medes and Persians.
