Babylonians Drag Away the Temple Pillar Capitalby emmanuel_higgins

Jeremiah 52:23

And there were ninety and six pomegranates on a side; and all the pomegranates upon the network were an hundred round about.

Jeremiah 52:23 stands within the account of Jerusalem's destruction and its judgment. That destruction included the carrying away of the remaining Jews and the sanctuary vessels to Babylon. Only a few thousand escaped the sword, a mere remnant of a nation that had numbered millions.

The word rendered side refers to the side of the network around the temple pillars, the Hebrew roo-agh, a term literally associated with wind. The destruction recorded in the chapter came because the people would not keep the Sabbath holy. It fulfilled the warning that if they bore no burdens on the Sabbath Jerusalem would stand forever, but if they would not listen God would destroy it.
