Jeremiah 52:24

And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door:

After Jerusalem fell to Babylon, the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door. They were taken captive by the Babylonian captain, as part of the surviving priesthood seized in the fall. Those seized were among the surviving priests and officials carried away captive after Jerusalem's destruction.

The seizure belongs to the account of God destroying Jerusalem by Babylon a few years after warning the people about the sacredness of the Sabbath. Jeremiah had promised that if they would bear no burdens and carry no loads on the Sabbath, Jerusalem would stand forever. But if they would not hearken to him about keeping His holy day, He would destroy it. That destruction recorded in Jeremiah 52 came to pass because they would not listen and obey. Its coming after such pleading reveals God's great condescension in entreating them first.

The account of Babylon's judgment on the city stands as a warning and lesson for places that forget and defy God.
