Jeremiah 6:7
As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds. As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.
Jerusalem casts out her wickedness continually, as a fountain casts out its waters. The outflow is unceasing, like water pouring from a spring. What is thus poured out is violence and plunder, heard within her. That violence and spoil are constantly present, so that grief and wounds are continually before God.
The saying stands among Jeremiah's prophecies denouncing sin. Those prophecies express sorrow over the people's transgression. They also mark the people's failure to respond to appeals to return to God.
