Jeremiah 7:30
For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it. Placing detestable things inside the house that bears God's name makes that house polluted. The defilement comes not only from idols of wood and stone but from selfish and unjust conduct carried on within an institution that serves God. The Review Office was founded on self-sacrifice and fairness, so when its dealings turned selfish and unfair its very premises were defiled. Wrong done toward publishing house workers and false dealing over the promotion of books were abominations set up in the place called by His name, and by them it was polluted.
