Jeremiah 8:1
At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
The utterance stands within a rebuke of Judah's idolatry, in which worship of the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven is exposed as part of the people's abominations and their turning away from the Lord. The word rendered grave is Kever, signifying a grave or cavern, derived from a root signifying to cover and to bury and to hide. It is one of about forty-seven places where Kever is rendered grave. Kever denotes the burial place in which only some of the dead are buried, distinct from sheol, which denotes the state of death and unconsciousness in which all the dead are.
