Jeremiah 8:19
Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?
The verse gives voice to the cry of the daughter of the people, raised because of those dwelling in a far country, as a cry of distress under judgment. In that distress the people ask whether the Lord is no longer in Zion and whether her king is no longer in her midst. The Lord answers by naming the cause of His anger as their graven images and their strange vanities, that is, idolatrous images and empty, foreign worship. That judgment scene stands as a warning against religious teachers who set aside God's law and exalt a man-made sabbath in place of the Sabbath that God Himself sanctified.
