Jeremiah 8:4
Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return? Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?
It is contrary to nature itself for a person who has stumbled to remain down instead of getting up, and for a traveler who has stepped off the path not to turn back, and by that same expectation those who have turned away from God ought to repent and return to Him. The verse therefore exposes a people who refuse that return, holding fast to their backsliding and to deceit rather than repenting when called. That refusal belongs to those who reject the Lord's plainly stated requirements and who will not search the Scriptures in order to learn and obey them.
