Jeremiah 9:20

Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation.

Jeremiah 9 stands in that portion of the prophecies which some hold to have been written by Baruch after Jehoiakim burned the first scroll. The book is rich in symbols and warnings and appeals, and those symbols and warnings and appeals apply to the present day.

The command is addressed to women to hear the word of the Lord and to let the ear receive the word of His mouth. They are to teach wailing to their daughters and lamentation each to her neighbor, because of the death and loss set forth in the next verse. In a time of crisis this is a call to faithfulness and to active help in God's work, so that to withhold help is disloyalty to His cause.
