Jeremiah 9:4
Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders. Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.
The verse describes a condition of widespread deceit and slander in which every brother deals treacherously and every neighbor goes about spreading slander, so that no neighbor and no brother can be safely trusted. The danger centers on persons in positions of trust who disregard divine principles, depend on their own judgment, and persist in working selfishly in their own way. It marks those who have been reproved and counseled and yet still choose to work in their own way, identifying their course as unfaithful and self-serving. Even when encompassed by falsehood, hostility, and evil report, truth is still to be spoken faithfully.
