Job Speaks Beside a Desert Springby emmanuel_higgins

Job 12:7

But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

The verse calls people to ask the beasts and the birds, because they teach and tell through the ways they live. Birds in particular teach trust, for God provides for them and yet they gather their own food, build their nests, and go about their work cheerfully. Even amid surrounding danger they raise their young, carrying forward their labor with cheerfulness.

Animals and birds also teach obedience. The same lesson is extended to the earth and to the fishes, which speak and declare that the hand of Jehovah has made them. The passage as a whole points to God as the source in whom wisdom and might and counsel and understanding are found.
