Job 14:13
O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!
Job's plea was uttered when he seemed forsaken by both heaven and earth, yet even then he held fast to his faith in God and to his consciousness of integrity. His spirit was already bruised and burdened by loss and suffering, and bitterness was added when his friends pressed their accusations of wrongdoing upon him. Those friends saw in adversity only the retribution of sin, and so misread his affliction as proof of guilt.
He spoke out of anguish and perplexity and weariness of life, longing for relief from unbearable strain. His request was for God to hide him in the grave and keep him secret there until wrath should be past. He further asked that God would appoint him a set time and then remember him, looking for vindication beyond the present darkness.
