Job 15:32

It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

Job 15:32 belongs to the second speech of Eliphaz to Job, in which he made fresh accusations against him, forming part of the extended debate in Job 3-31 between Job and his three friends over the cause and object of human suffering. It was spoken from his own wisdom and from observation drawn from seeing the afflicted. Job answered that speech by protesting his innocence and desiring death.

The record that Eliphaz spoke these words is inspired and true that he spoke them, while what was said is generally true though it was misapplied in Job's case. The general truth contained in it is that evil is ultimately punished and good is ultimately rewarded. Adversity, affliction, and suffering do not prove a person to be under God's displeasure and should not cause discouragement, for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and suffering for His sake glorifies Him and works for good to those who trust God.
