Job 17:12

They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.

Job speaks in Job 17:11-16 as one facing death, placing his hope in the grave. His present outlook is in darkness while he awaits his change. In that distress day and night seem reversed. The light of hope is brief and overwhelmed by darkness. Belonging to those words of one facing death and awaiting his change, the verse shows that the dead are not conscious, but remain dead until that change.
