The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.
The darkening of the light in his tabernacle is the going out of the light in the wicked man's own home, and the putting out of his candle with him is the extinguishing of his lamp together with himself. That extinguishing is the end of the wicked, whose candle is put out in ignominious darkness.
By contrast is the lot of the righteous, who strive for an immortal crown and shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Their life measures with the life of God and lasts as long as God's life, and they reign forever and ever in a home where sun and moon and lighted candle are unnecessary because the Lord God gives them light. The verse is thus a warning that one who turns from the truth may have his light go out in darkness.
