Job 19:23

Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!

Job longed for his sayings to be put in writing, printed in a book, and kept in lasting form. That longing showed he counted them weighty, worthy to stand for all coming generations. What he wanted so kept was his confession that his Redeemer is alive and will stand upon the earth in the latter day, and that though his body dies and wastes away he will yet in his flesh look upon God.

The image in the next verse of cutting words in rock with iron and lead sets forth how enduring such a record is. Even so every person's words and acts are entered in the books of heaven. That heavenly writing fixes eternal destiny. Turning to repentance late in life does not blot out a guilty past, nor undo sins done deliberately and with full knowledge.
