Job 2:10
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips. But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
Job remained loyal to God while enduring afflictions he had not brought upon himself. That loyalty was tested by the stripping away of his earthly possessions and his children, together with severe bodily affliction. His steadfastness under the loss of property and under physical suffering showed faithfulness that did not depend on outward prosperity.
Such severe loss and affliction does not mean that God has forsaken the sufferer, nor does it mean that His purposes have failed. Suffering is not always the result of a sinful life. His friends misrepresented God by wrongly treating his suffering as proof of guilt, blaming him for what had befallen him. They even treated him with loathing in his humiliation. Amid these trials Job showed integrity by refusing to turn from his loyalty and turn against God. God in His time lifted him up and rewarded that unyielding loyalty with greater favor than before.
