Job 20:10

His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.

Job 20:10 belongs to the colloquies between Job and his three friends in Job 3-31 concerning the cause and object of human suffering. It consists of words spoken by one of Job's friends as part of the friends' misguided speeches. Its preservation in the inspired book guarantees that he spoke them, not that everything asserted in them is true in itself.

The friends' speeches must not be treated as reliable teaching about God or Job when they conflict with inspired Scripture. What the friends said was generally true but misapplied in Job's case, since evil is ultimately punished and good is ultimately rewarded. Adversity, affliction, or suffering coming upon a man does not prove that he is under the displeasure of God.
