Job 20:26
All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.
The verse belongs to the debate between Job and his three friends concerning Job's afflictions. It stands in the closing part of that discussion, in which the friends condemned Job because of his seeming self-righteousness while Job set aside their words because he felt they were condemning him unjustly. Within that setting it is part of Zophar's description of the wicked person's portion and final doom, including punishment that comes after this life.
The chapter containing the verse records speeches by Job's misguided friends, so its statements about Job and God are not reliable merely because they are recorded in Scripture but must be tested against inspired declarations elsewhere. Yet the verse itself is a most blessed and precious assurance of protection from various evils, many times proved true by God's people in the past, showing God's wonderful ultimate care.
