Job 21:13

They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.

The wicked spend their days in prosperity. That prosperity is often temporary, and it follows turning away from a plain Thus saith the Lord to follow a way of their own choosing. Such riches and worldly honor are no token of God's favor and no sign that His prospering hand is present, even though others interpret them that way and even though the one prospered seems greatly blessed. Solomon's apostasy illustrates this, for it brought an abundance of gold and silver while the nation suffered terrible spiritual loss. Real prosperity comes not by outward display but only by conformity to God's will and purpose. A course that esteems human wisdom above God's wisdom will not abide, but will bring bitter experience.
