Job 24:12

Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.

Job 24:12 belongs to a book whose dialogues examine the cause and purpose of human suffering. The book presents Job as a real person who endured trial with patience. It also shows that suffering does not prove that the sufferer is under God's displeasure.

Job 24:12 belongs with Job 22 and 23 in Job 8-27, where Job answers the constant accusations of his friends, both spoken and implied. It stands at the point where his friends have ceased troubling him and he is still giving his last reply. In chapter 24 the suffering and cries of the afflicted stand against the injustice Job describes, as part of his contrast between people who oppress the vulnerable and his own record of helping the poor, the fatherless, and widows.
