Job Faces the Storm Sea and Cloudsby emmanuel_higgins

Job 26:12

He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.

By His power God divides the sea, and in that dividing He rules and controls it and stills it. By His understanding He smites through the proud, striking them down and overcoming them. His works in nature display a power so great that people hear only a small whisper of it and cannot fully understand it.

His control of the sea by His power belongs to His work as Creator, who was not dependent on pre-existent matter but caused all things spiritual and material to stand up before Him at His word and at His pleasure by the breath of His mouth. He Himself is the great and constant worker who still waters the earth and blesses its increase, who covers the heaven with clouds and prepares rain for the earth. He gives snow like wool and scatters the hoarfrost like ashes, He lays up the depths in storehouses, and He makes fire and hail, storm and tempest fulfill His word.
