The Rich Man's Silver Scatters in the Desert Windby emmanuel_higgins

Job 27:18

He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh.

The verse is part of Job's own description of the wicked. In that description he pictures their dwelling as fragile and temporary as a moth's structure and as a shelter put up by a watchman, exposing the insecurity of their seeming prosperity. Those who assigned it otherwise placed it among the friends' claims about how the wicked fare.

The friends generally spoke truths but misapplied them to Job's case. Their conclusions about the wicked were drawn from their own wisdom and observation. For that reason the verse is not a dependable rule that every suffering person lies under God's displeasure.
