The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.

Even the deepest places of the earth and the sea hold no wisdom to give and cannot reveal where it is to be found. Searching those depths is therefore a fruitless quest that cannot discover wisdom.
Trying to penetrate and probe the mysteries of God's being is another fruitless search that likewise cannot discover wisdom. As the surrounding verses show, wisdom lies beyond the reach of human searching and cannot be attained by exploration. It also cannot be bought with material wealth, including gold, silver, precious metals and jewels. No amount of gold, silver, or precious stones can purchase it.
No amount of earthly riches can equal wisdom, for its value surpasses them all. God alone knows the way of wisdom and the place where it is found; it is known by Him. For human beings, wisdom is to fear the Lord, and understanding is to depart from evil and turn from it. It is found by humbly receiving the revelation God has given and living in obedience to His will and in conformity with it.
