Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
Even destruction and death know wisdom only by report, having heard of its fame with their ears. They do not possess wisdom themselves and cannot reveal where it is to be found, for they do not know its way or its place. The verse thus places wisdom beyond human reach and discovery. It cannot be found by searching the earth, even its depths, nor can it be secured by wealth.
God alone understands the way of wisdom and knows the place where it is found. It cannot be discovered by probing the mysteries of the divine being. This wisdom consists in fearing the Lord and turning away from evil. It is found by humbly receiving what God has revealed and living according to His will, which requires learning from the light and instruction of Scripture.
