Job 29:4

As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

Job was remembering the earlier prime of his life and contrasting it with his present suffering. He spoke of his youth not merely as chronological age but as the season of his strength, prosperity, and full vigor. In that season the favor of God rested continually upon his household and all that belonged to him. The secret of God upon his tabernacle meant God's intimate presence dwelling with him in his home. It meant also God's confidential counsel guiding him, as a trusted friend is admitted to private deliberation.
