Job 30:13

They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.

The book that holds this text is the oldest book in the Bible and the oldest of all the poetical books that have come down, conjectured to have been written by Moses while in the land of Midian, though this is not known. It belongs to the poetical debate section of the book, distinct from the prose prologue in chapters 1 and 2 and the prose epilogue in chapter 42:7-17, from the speeches of Elihu in chapters 32 to 37, and from the speeches of the Lord out of the storm-cloud. That debate concerns his afflictions, occupies chapters 4 to 31, and is made up of three circles of speeches on the part of each participant in the debate between Job and his three friends.

It stands in, near the close of, that discussion between Job and his three friends. In that exchange his friends condemned him because of his seeming self-righteousness, and he rejected their words because he felt they were condemning him unjustly.
