Elihu Speaks Before Job and His Three Friendsby emmanuel_higgins

Job 32:5

When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.

Elihu is the younger man who enters after the argument between Job and his friends has run its course. The verse belongs to the section devoted to Elihu's speeches, which runs from chapters 32 through 37. It marks the point when Elihu sees that the three friends have no answer to Job, and it introduces his argument and reproof and his admirable discourse. Its meaning is that Elihu's wrath was kindled when he saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men to Job.

It follows Bildad's last effort in chapter 25 to convince Job that he was a sinner deserving his condition. After that came Job's bitter replies magnifying God's infinite power and wisdom. It comes while Job persists in self-justification provoked by his friends' false accusations.

In his plea Elihu tries to show Job that he is not great and that God is everything. Job makes no answer to it. It does not help Job much. Then the Lord speaks for Job's sake and for all who should come after.
