Job 33:10

Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

Job 33:10 belongs to Elihu's argument and reproof to Job. Elihu's speeches occupy chapters 32-37. Those chapters form the third of the five parts of the book. His instructive discourses in chapters 32-36 come before God speaks to Job in chapters 38-41.

Elihu's argument is that Job himself is not very great while God is everything. The verse voices Job's sense that God was finding occasions against him and counting him as guilty and opposed. In this setting Job is still defending himself as one who has committed no open sins against God and who is earnest and anxious for God to manifest Himself to him.

Job's persistent self-justification was provoked by his friends' false accusations. Job makes no answer to Elihu's plea, and no comment is given upon it.
