Job 34:1

Furthermore Elihu answered and said,

Furthermore Elihu answered and said opens another speech by Elihu, in which he answers and carries forward the ongoing discussion between Job and his friends. It stands within the distinct section of Elihu's speeches in chapters 32 to 37, and the part begun here continues speaking through chapters 34 to 37. The instructive discourse begun here is also reckoned as continuing through chapters 32 to 36.

Elihu is the younger man who steps in after the argument between Job and his friends closes in chapter 31, confident that his superior wisdom will correct Job. In this intervention he follows about the same line as the other friends, and no answer is made to him. His speech is argument and reproof aimed to show Job that he is not great and that God is everything.

As the third of the five parts of the book, this section covering chapters 32-37 comes after the colloquies between Job and his three friends on the cause and object of human suffering and before the address of God with Job's confession and penitence. Elihu's discourse is admirable, though it did not seem to help Job much.
