Job 34:23

For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

The saying stands within Elihu's argument and reproof addressed to Job, which occupies chapters 32 through 37.
Its plea is that Job is not great in himself, while God is everything.
Job makes no answer to that plea, and no comment upon it is given.

God then answers Job by pointing to His mighty works in creation to show His infinite power and wisdom, showing by contrast how exceedingly small Job is and how little he can understand God's moral dealings with men where eternal life itself is at stake.
The verse means that God will not lay upon man more than is right, for His angels keep watch over His children and deliver them from every assault of Satan, permitting attack only when the intended harm can be overruled for their good.
Otherwise He withdraws the affliction, heals the wound, and makes whole, for He shares in all the afflictions of His children and ever suffers with them.
