Job 34:26

He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

Job 34:26 belongs to the portion of Job extending from chapter 20 to chapter 37, specifically to Elihu's argument and reproof to Job in chapters 32-37. It is spoken by Elihu, a younger man who steps in when the dispute between Job and his friends has closed, thinking his superior wisdom will correct Job. He follows about the same line as Job's other friends. His argument tries to convince Job that Job himself is not so great while God is everything. No answer is made to him; Job makes no reply to this plea and no comment whatever is given upon it.

Job was a real man and the account is fact. The verse states the generally true principle that evil is ultimately punished and good is ultimately rewarded, with God striking wicked men openly. Like what Job's friends said, this generally true principle was misapplied in Job's case, because adversity, affliction, or suffering coming upon a man does not prove he is under the displeasure of God or that he needs to be discouraged.
