Job 36:5

Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

In its setting the verse belongs to Elihu's plea to convince Job that Job himself is not very great while God is everything. Job makes no answer to that plea and no comment is given upon it. The Lord then answers Job Himself by pointing to the mighty works of God in creation to show His infinite power and wisdom and by contrast how exceedingly small Job is.

The verse declares that God is mighty in strength and wisdom and despises no one. His greatness does not make Him indifferent, even to people who suffer. His greatness is joined with regard for all, and His goodness is seen in His power and wisdom. His might in wisdom means He fully understands what will be needed in the future, so His plan for creation and redemption was carefully prepared beforehand and not devised as an afterthought. Joined to the promise that follows, the verse presents God as offering prosperity and pleasantness to those who listen to Him and serve Him.
