Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.
Men are therefore to fear God because of His greatness. That reverent fear is due Him because His power and His justice and righteousness are beyond human comprehension. Human minds cannot trace or measure them, and for that reason the proper response is awe and reverence rather than speculation.
That fear is also called for because His works and His wisdom are beyond human understanding. What He has made and what He ordains displays a wisdom too deep to be searched out, and before such unsearchable wisdom men are to bow in fear.
He gives no special regard or favor to those who are wise in their own hearts. Those who rely on their own wisdom and pride themselves on their own minds gain no standing with Him on that account. Human wisdom affords no ground for self-importance before Him.
