Job 38:19

Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

The verse stands within God's questioning of Job in Job 38-40, a poetic challenge concerning the creation and ordering of the natural world. In its wording it asks for the way to the dwelling of light and for the place of darkness. That question exhibits the majesty of the poetry. The questioning establishes that man was made last, after the image of God and Christ, and took no part in the creation of the world or of anything that has the breath of life.

God's questions about mysteries in nature are not put so that finite beings may solve them, but to reveal the depth of what they cannot comprehend and the limits of human wisdom. The verse points to mysteries in the everyday surroundings as well as in divine revelation, and what God has not revealed calls for acknowledgment of Him and for faith no less than what He has revealed. People may keep searching and learning, yet there always remains more beyond their understanding. The verse therefore calls for rejecting human fallacies in favor of the Word of God.
